What Stays on Your Device

Your grids, your saved grids, your settings and a cache of cover art are stored on your device, in the app's own storage.
There is no account and no sign-in.
Deleting the app deletes all of it, apart from the copies of exported grids described below.

Search

When you search for an album, the text you type is sent to Last.fm and to Deezer, which return the matching albums. Cover images are loaded from Last.fm's servers. Those services see the request and your network address in the ordinary way any web request works, and their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it.

Usage Analytics

The app sends anonymous usage data to Amplitude, an analytics service, so we can see how the app is used and what to fix. This started with the 1.6 update in August 2026. It includes:

An identifier generated for this install. It is not your name, email, Apple ID or advertising identifier, and we cannot connect it to you.
Your device model, iOS version and language, and the network address the data was sent from, which Amplitude uses to work out an approximate location.
When the app is installed, opened and updated, and how long a session lasts.
What you do in the app, as counts and flags only: how many albums you placed, when a grid was saved or exported, which layout and export options were used, how many searches you ran and whether they found anything.

It never includes what you typed or the contents of your grids. Grids you save to Photos are handled separately, below.

Exported Grids

When you save a grid to Photos, the app sends a copy of that grid to topster.app: its layout, the albums on it with their cover image links, the export options you chose, and the app version. It is sent with nothing that identifies you and is kept separately from the usage analytics above. Each copy carries a random id made for the grid itself, not for you or your device, so saving the same grid again counts once. We record the day it arrived but not the time, and we do not store your network address. We use these copies to see what people make with Topster. We also post counts across all grids, like the most saved albums of the week, on Topster's social accounts. We never post anyone's grid on its own.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell this data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone other than Amplitude, which processes the usage analytics on our behalf, and Cloudflare, which hosts topster.app and stores the exported grids. Because none of it carries anything that identifies you, there is no way for us to find and hand over one person's data on request. The way to stop it is to delete the app.

Children

Topster is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
